Prof. Dr. Michael Gass
Michael Gass a New Hampshire-i Egyetem Egészségügyi és Humán Szolgáltatások Karának (College of Health and Human Services) professzora, az Outdoor Viselkedési Egészségügyi Ellátások Központjának (Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Center) igazgatója. Doktori fokozatát Boulderben, a Coloradoi Egyetemen szerezte, majd a doktorátus megszerzése után tanulmányait a házasság- és családterápia terén végezte. A Browne Központ egyik alapítója – az élménypedagógiai programfejlesztési és kutatóközpont évente több mint 10,000 kliens ellátását végzi oktatási, terápiás és vállalati területen. Létrehozta és vezette a Projekthatás és a Családi Expedíció elnevezésű programokat – a két állami támogatású kutatási projekt a viselkedési problémákkal küzdő fiatalokkal folytatott munkát tanulmányozta. Többek között Taiwanon, Kínában, Ausztráliában és Németországban oktatott egyetemi, főiskolai tanszékeken. Az AEE (Association for Experiental Education – Tapasztalati Tanulás Szövetsége) Akkreditációs Tanácsának székfoglaló elnöke volt annak első tíz évében, emellett 1990-ben ő volt az Igazgatótanács elnöke.
Mike jelenleg két kulcsfontosságú kutatást irányít a viselkedési egészségügyi ellátások terén – az egyiket az Outdoor Viselkedési Egészségügyi Ellátások Kutatóközpontjának igazgatójaként (obhcenter.org), a másikat a NATSAP (Terápiás Iskolák és Programok Nemzeti Szövetsége) kutatási adatbázisának igazgatójaként. Több mint 300 szakmai prezentációt mutatott be, és több mint 150 szakmai cikket írt. Könyve, “A kalandprogramok hatékony tervezése” (Effective Programming in Adventure Programming), melyet Dr. Simon Priesttel együtt írt, a kalandprogramok témájának legnagyobb eladott példányszámú könyve. Legújabb könyve, melynek társszerzői Dr. Lee Gillis és Dr. Keith Russell, a “Kalandterápia: Elmélet, kutatás, gyakorlat” (2012), a Routledge Press kiadásában. Mike jelenlegi kutatói projektjei között szerepel a Játék a békéért (Guatemalában), a Santa Fe Mountain Center (Új-Mexikó) és a OBH (Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare) különböző programjai.
Mike az AEE-től több díjat is kapott, 1998-ban elnyerte “Az év kiemelkedő tapasztalati tanára” díjat, 2002-ben ő tartotta a Kurt Hahn Beszédet, 2011-ben pedig Kiváló Kutató Díjat kapott. 2005-ben ő kapta a New Hampshire-i Egyetem Egészségügyi és Humán Szolgáltatások Iskolájának Kiváló Karrier Kutató díját, csakúgy mint az egyetem Nemzetközi Együttműködés Kiválóságának díját 2011-ben. 2016-ban megkapta a NATSAP Vezetői Díját, az OBH Sas Díjat és a TAPG Kalandterápia Szíve díjat (TAPG – AEE’s Therapeutic Adventure Professionals Group – az AEE Kalandterápiás Szakemberek Csoportja).

Michael Gass is a Professor in the College of Health and Human Services at the University of New Hampshire where he is the Director of the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Center. He received his Ph.D. in Experiential Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and completed postdoctoral studies in marriage and family therapy. He is one of the creators of the Browne Center, a program development and research center on adventure learning that serves over 10,000 clients a year with educational, therapeutic, and corporate clients. He created and directed the Project Impact and Family Expedition programs, two federally funded research projects that explored working with youth suffering from behavioral disturbances. Some of his past international professorships have been in Taiwan, China, Australia, and Germany. He was the inaugural Chair of the AEE Accreditation Council for its first 10 years of existence as well as President of the Board of Directors of AEE in 1990.
Mike currently directs two critical research initiatives in the field of behavioral healthcare–one as Director of the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Research Center (obhcenter.org) and another as Director of the NATSAP research database. He has made over 300 professional presentations and written over 150 professional publications. His book, Effective Programming in Adventure Programming written with Dr. Simon Priest, is the largest selling textbook in the adventure programming field. His latest book, written with Dr. Lee Gillis and Dr. Keith Russell, Adventure therapy: Theory, research, and practice, (2012) is published by Routledge Press. Mike’s current research projects include joining efforts with Play for Peace (Guatemala), the Santa Fe Mountain Center (New Mexico), and OBH programs.
In 1998 Mike received the Association for Experiential Education’s Outstanding Experiential Teacher of the Year Award, in 2002 he delivered the Kurt Hahn Address for AEE, and in 2011 received AEE’s Distinguished Researcher Award. In 2005 he received the UNH School of Health and Human Service’s Distinguished Career Research Award as well the University’s Award for Excellence in International Engagement in 2011. In 2016 he was awarded the NATSAP Leadership Award, the OBH Eagle Award, and the TAPG Heart of Adventure Therapy Award.
